School & Library Visits (virtual and in person):

School & library visits can be tailored to the interests of the school and ages of the students (usually pre-K through 5th/6th). During a standard 45-60 minute presentation I will read one or two books, talk about the inspiration behind the book(s), share sample sketches, give a peek at some of the art I made as a kid and discuss how it ties into the art I am making now, give a short studio tour (that includes my cats and my library which is alphabetized by illustrator), and answer student questions. For a longer session (60 min +) I share more in-depth thoughts on the art making process (including the importance of making mistakes, paying close attention to the world around you, improvisation, revision, and play in art making), and I incorporate live drawing.

Please note that the best school visits happen when the school and students have spent time with my work before I visit, whether reading my books or creating art related to the books and ideas I’ll be sharing.

VIRTUAL SCHOOL VISITS:
$350 for a 30 minute session, $500 for a 45 minute session, $600 for a one hour session. These visits can also be tailored to the interests of the school and ages of the students. During a 30-45 minute visit I will read a book, talk about the inspiration behind the book, share sample sketches, give a peek at some of the art I made as a kid and discuss how it ties into the art I am making now, give a short studio tour (that includes my cats and my library which is alphabetized by illustrator), and answer student questions. For a longer session I can share more in-depth thoughts on the art making process (including the importance of making mistakes, paying close attention to the world around you, improvisation, revision, and play in art making), and incorporate live drawing.

LIBRARY VISITS:

These visits can be tailored to the needs/interests of the library and age of the audience. During a 45-60 minute visit I can read a book and do a craft and some live drawing, or I can do a slide presentation in which I read a book, talk about the inspiration behind the book, share sample sketches, give a peek at some of the art I made as a kid and discuss how it ties into the art I am making now, give a short studio tour (that includes my cats and my studio library which is alphabetized by illustrator), and answer questions. For a longer session I can share more in-depth thoughts on the art making process (including the importance of making mistakes, paying close attention to the world around you, improvisation, revision, and play in art making), incorporate live drawing, and do a craft depending on time. Pricing is flexible based on distance traveled, time, and library budget. Like with school visits, a discount is also available if books are offered for sale at the event.
